Broome - Ningaloo Reef - Coral bay

Was good to get to Broome as we could see the sea and the cooler tempertures. Our first stop was Cable beach. It was beautiful with it's lovely white sands and turquoise blue water. We got there in time for a bike ride along the beach and to watch the stunning sunset.

On the way down to Ningaloo Reef we stopped off at Port Smith. It was about 150km down from Broome, and 26km on a dirt track to get to the coast. It has a nice lagoon, but what really made it special was all the kangaroos pottering about the place. We woke up in the morning to three sitting outside our van. Funny we had been going on about not seeing any on the trip across, but now they were right at our doorstep! :)

Our next stop was the very looooong Eighty Mile Beach!! Another amazing spot where the campsite was right on the beach. We took a walk along the beach and found some beautiful sea shells. At night we enjoyed our lovely German neighbours, "The Crazy Gang", with songs sung with guitar and maraccas, with much enthusiasm!! :)

After Eighty Mile Beach we decided to head down to Ningaloo Reef marine park....
It is a virtually untouched barrier reef of 260km length protecting a shallow, brilliant white sandy lagoon of clear tropical waters. One of the rare places on earth where you are able to walk from the beach straight onto a coral reef. More than 500 species of tropical fish and 220 species of coral make up the Ningaloo Reef. It's also an amazing place to kitesurf!! :)
